Reaching Your Private Practice Goals

The first step towards achieving success in your private practice is setting goals. However, the hard work doesn’t finish there. The next step involves taking action so that you achieve continual progression and your dream goals become a reality. Reaching your private practice goals requires accountability, aligning your actions with your targets, and following a plan that will take you from goal creation to goal completion.

Creating goals and milestones

Define your vision in writing, and specifically outline what you want to accomplish and by when. Challenge yourself to achieve new things, but make sure that your goals are realistic and you have the capacity to make them happen. Create milestones within your goal to make your objectives feel less daunting and more manageable, and to help you stay motivated and give yourself something to work towards.

Focus on the end objective

When you’re working towards a long-term goal, it’s easy to get distracted by other tasks that don’t align with your goals. Establish your priorities and don’t be afraid to say no to activities that take time away from your main task, which is achieving your goal. Set boundaries and block out a set amount of time each day or each week to work towards making your goals become a reality. Create a calendar at the beginning of each week outlining how you’ll use your time, and if necessary, delegate certain tasks to a virtual assistant or contractor to help lighten your load.

Hold yourself accountable

Accountability is one of the main factors in reaching your private practice goals. As a practice owner, you are the driving force behind the company and you are accountable only to yourself. This is why sharing your goals with others – whether that be your staff members, family, or a mentor – can be extremely effective in helping to keep you motivated. Take time out each week to evaluate your progress and note down the actions you’ve taken to work towards your objective. If you’ve fallen behind on certain tasks, or unplanned interruptions have occurred, revise your weekly objectives to accommodate this to keep your short-term objectives realistic and attainable.
