Did you know that the one thing that prevents coaches and therapists from making major progress in their business is comparisonitis and not knowing their own next right steps?
So what is Comparisonitis …well in short it is comparing ourselves to others.
We are surrounded with so much influence, especially with social media. You follow people that you like, ones that have similar businesses, style etc. but have you ever thought of the positive and negative effects this can have on you and your business?
The biggest negative effects I have heard from clients, is the negative beliefs and resentment towards themselves or even the person they admire and are influenced by.
It’s too easy to fall into the trap of self-doubt and shame, asking yourself…Why can’t I do that? Why can’t I get that many clients? Why am I not making that much? What’s wrong with me? Why don’t people share my stuff or comment?
Then to start looking for ways that you can do this yourself and be more like them…
You may invest a bunch of money into a program that you and your business are not ready for. You may try to start the program, or like so many… it will sit in your inbox and you’ll do nothing with it. At the time of purchase, you think oh yeah if I buy this it will get me that. When in reality your business may not be ready for that stage yet.
Often people don’t stop to realize that the people you are comparing yourself to are at a different stage of their business and forget that they too had to start somewhere. You never know where they are at, they could be at the middle stage of business and/or they may have an entire team of people helping them.
Here is a tip…if you are having negative beliefs around someone you are influenced by especially on social media, try unfollowing them or snoozing them for 30 days and see if this changes your negative beliefs. You’ll start to see the negative talk disappear as you won’t be seeing that person in your face every day.
But don’t get me wrong…
Not all comparison is bad, some can actually have a positive influence on you if you have the right mind set. It might inspire you to reach that next goal, take the next step to move you and your business in the direction you desire.
Kinda like a kick in the butt!
Then comes the question…
Where do I start? What are my NEXT right steps?
You need to start with where your business is at right now! Not where you think it is, or where someone else’s is.
Here are a few things to consider…
- Where is your business at? Early stages, already started, plateauing?
- What are some goals that you have for your business?
- Where do you want to spend your money?
- Is it time to hire someone to help you get to that next level?
Once you’ve thought about the above, start thinking strategically about what you want to do/ implement in the next 90 days.
I love 90 day goals, they are achievable and action oriented!
So pick ONE 90 day goal that aligns with where your business is at right now.
Here are some ideas…
- Get clear on your messaging
- What is your voice and why are you unique from someone else?
- Be more active on social media
- Determine your ideal client, and speak to them in everything you do.
Then once you have your 90 day goal, break it down!
Break it down to simple daily tasks.
By doing one thing a day, it will make your goal that much more achievable. It can be as simple as posting on social media, sending an email, talking to someone new about your business.
Try not to overwhelm yourself. Once you achieve that one goal you’ll be on the track for setting another goal and another. You’ll be inspired to get your business to where you want it to be.
