I have a lot of coaches, counsellors and therapists ask “HOW can I STAND OUT?”, “How can I set myself and my business apart from the sea of other people that do something similar to what I do?”
…So they can be successful. So that they can attract more clients. Especially when it comes to social media.
Social media is amazing for leveling the playing field, and giving each business owner the opportunity to attract their ideal clients, market, and start building what I call “KNOW, LIKE & TRUST”. It allows the regular everyday therapist and coach to be able to reach a larger audience, and attract clients world-wide… all without having to spend a fortune in ads. This didn’t used to be the case. Businesses used to have to pay large sums of money to expand their reach, and this was just not feasible for many business owners.
HOWEVER, with all this possibility, it is easy to get caught up in this idea that we can create a FB Page, make a few posts and the ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ should start right away.
These expectations for being able to get instant traction is often not even a conscious thought… it sneaks up… and then when we post something and no one seems to pay attention, the phone doesn’t call with clients wanting to work with us…
It’s easy to fall into a slump… thinking that we aren’t good enough, or that we don’t know what we are doing, or that social media doesn’t work in our line of work…
But here’s the thing…
What I have learned is that you need to NURTURE your audience!
Nurturing your audience (i.e. your potential clients) helps to build the know, like and trust factor- which is essential for someone to want to work with you.
Building relationships, building trust, showing what you are all about, and how you help your clients is essential for you to stand out, and have your people want to specifically work with you rather than the girl/guy next door.
This is the #1 thing that separates successful businesses apart form those that struggle… Understanding the importance of Nurturing your audience. Understanding the importance of regular, consistent communication with potential clients. Building relationship. Building Trust. Creating awareness for what you do and how you help people.
So how do you nurture your audience?
My suggestion is to get into your Social Media in some way ALL THE TIME! Like 5 days a week 🙂
Yes, I said it….I know 5 days sounds like a lot, but it doesn’t have to be super time consuming.
My suggestion is to set aside 1-2 hours a week to create your posts for the week.
Start by creating a plan, and looking at what types of posts your audience responds well to. Do they like inspirational quotes, tips and training’s, behind the scenes glimpses, etc.? Knowing what they respond to will help you reach them, and provide value to them.
Show up, and SHARE what YOU are good at, what you are passionate about…show your expertise. Provide value and tips and strategies. Whatever you choose to share, you want to make sure it reflects you and your business. Help your audience begin their first stage of transformation with your help, and educate them on the path they will need to walk to get from where they are now to where they want to be.
Try to help them create change in their lives before you even start working with. Inspire them to want the change that you can help them with. By staying consistent with your messaging and showing up continuously you will be building the like, know and trust factor with your potential clients. You will be helping them realize that you understand their situation (their challenge), you understand what their desired situation is, and that you know the steps to help them get there.
Now’s the time! Create your plan to NURTURE your audience, put it in your calendar and make it a priority, and starting showing up in your social media. You will see the difference 🙂
